So a bit more than a "diesel knock" . An experienced mechanic should be able to diagnose if big end or main bearings worn / knocking. Just a small suggestion, on those multijet engines it is not unknown for the injectors to leak diesel into the sump watering down the engine oil and in extreme cases causing "running on/away" .
Re: 2008 Fiat 1.3 multijet; DPF reset. All engines burn some oil; it's unavoidable, and so to prevent premature and permanent clogging of the DPF, low-ash oil is required. It is FUEL that is burned during a normal regeneration and NOT oil. The high temperatures only occur in the DPF, not the engine. The vanes block with carbon because the turbo is not used enough. I was told to use egr cleaner but did not work . I had a lot of trouble with my wife fiat panda, going limp mode and losing power on acceleration. So now the car is fantastic and did not cause problems for engine. –
